2017 Monthly Actions
In the aftermath of the 2016 elections, Radical Evolution committed to monthly creative actions in winter - spring 2017. Designed as participatory, community-building activities for artists of all disciplines, these events were created with the goal of strengthening and expanding our network of like-minded artists and makers, coming together in artistic practice, supporting each other, and centering our creative practice in support of our political struggle.
Here's a bit more info on each of our monthly actions!
April - Loving and Loving in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens!
Sunday, April 9 - 7 PM
KD's
408 Rogers Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11225
A neighborhood reading of our play Loving and Loving in partnership with PLG arts! We were thrilled to be able to share the latest draft of this piece as we prepared for the world premiere production in June 2017.
PLG Arts promotes the arts, supports local artists, and builds community through celebrating the vibrant creativity of the residents of Prospect Lefferts Gardens and surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods. Radical Evolution is proud to partner with PLG arts for this event.
March - Devising Across Disciplines!
Saturday, March 18 - 2 - 5 PM
At The Stella Adler Studio of Acting
31 W. 27th Street, 2nd Floor, NYC 10001
A 3-hour workshop facilitated by co-founders of Radical Evolution that brought theater makers, musicians, dancers and all creative people together to play, create and (hopefully) discover something new about their own practice.
A suggested donation of $10 (any amount accepted) to held your spot in the room. All proceeds from the workshop were donated to DRUM, an awesome immigrant rights organization, as a way of spreading the energy and intention behind our creative action into the world.
We welcomed all makers, professional and nonprofessional, new and experienced. All we asked is that you commit to showing up, came ready to participate, and were open to stepping out of your comfort zone.
This month’s action is generously hosted by the Stella Adler Studio, co-producers of the world premiere production of Loving and Loving.
February - National Write Out Participation!
Wednesday, February 15th
7 - 9 PM
Theatre Communications Group
520 Eighth Avenue, 24th Floor, NYC
Inspired by the National Write Out Action that writers were participating in all over the country, this action urged us to consider and articulate a response to the following prompt: “What’s worth fighting for is worth writing for". Our version of this action was a gathering to write and reflect followed by a sharing of work read aloud with each other.
January - Teatro School!
Saturday, January 14th
11 AM - 2 PM
Downtown Art
70 E. 4th St, East Village, NYC
Ensemble members from the historic Mexican-American theatre company El Teatro Campesino introduced the three styles that inform their artistic tradition: Acto, Mito, and Corrido. This three-hour workshop covered the origins of the company, the development of their style, and the cultural traditions they draw from to create original, ensemble-based theatre for the past 51 years.
